Much More driver Elliott Harper takes the double win at BRCA 1/12 Nationals Round 2 – Crewe The 2nd round of the BRCA 1/12th Nationals was held at Crewe on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October. The event at Crewe co-incided with the 30 year celebrations on racing and a high number of senior drivers were in attendance for the evening celebrations. The format for the meeting on both days was a standard early morning practice, followed by 4 qualifiers and one final. Finals positions selected on a FTQ basis. Saturday 10.5T Stock A very quick display by Elliott Harper saw him in FTD position after the first 3 qualifiers only to be edged out and back into 3rd place on the final qualifier. Andy Griffith showed his quality in taking back the position on pole. In the final, Andy went wide on the first corner letting through the chasing cars. Elliott moved into 2nd place chasing the leader and not long afterwards he took the lead and started to pull away. However, Elliott's body shell started to catch at one point on the track each lap and the lead was slowly eaten away. The chasing car of Mark Styles took the lead for a short period and this subsequently changed again. At one point Mark touched Elliott and sportingly Mark stopped and let Elliott retake position before both cars chased off. Elliott never really shook off the challenge from Mark and the two cars crossed the line abreast with Elliott just 2/100ths ahead to take his first National 12th win. It was particularly sporting for Mark who was also chasing his own first win at National level.
Sunday Modified
From the start Elliott had 4 straight wins in qualifying to take FTD. In the final, Elliott pulled away from the start and ran a flawless race from the front and delivered his 2nd National win with Andy Griffiths taking 2nd place. This was a very successful weekend racing and Elliott is currently joint lead in the modified championship. Ben Cosgrove also joined the party on Sunday for modified. Ben didn't have the best of luck during qualifying, however, he was eventually able to bounce back with avengance in the finals and dominate the 'B' final!
The next event on the 12th calendar is in Jarrow 22nd/23rd November after the 12th and 10th Worlds at which Much More UK Drivers Andy Moore, Chris Grainger and Elliott Harper will be attending. |
