BIWS Finals day - Report by Adam Howe, Top Photon team driver:

Sunday the 28th February saw the final round of the British Indoor Winter Series and trophy day for the top performing 10 drivers. There were around 60 drivers for the final round a little less compared to other rounds due to the 1/12th national at chesterfield and opening day at Ardent racing the day before. All the front runners were still there competing for the title. The track layout was quite technical and not as fast as the others but it did have a long straight where the newest speed controllers seemed to be taking advantage of. Muchmore Racing provided prizes for the raffle including a car kit among many other fantastic prizers.

Practice:

I started with the same setup that the team ran at the last round of the series which seemed to be good although i did make a couple of alterations as there didnt seem to as much grip as usual which i put down to there been not as many drivers as the other rounds but the car felt good and i was quite confident going into qualifying. Practice slots were timed and limited to 10 drivers at any one time which let drivers have a good practice.

Qualifying:

Round 1, I started in the second to top qualifying heat and was the quickest in my heat by quite a bit the car went well and i managed 5th overall, i was quite happy with the car but still felt as if the grip wasnt quite there and i couldnt push the car as much as i wanted. Probably due to grip not quite being there.

Round 2, I upped my game this run stuck another pinion on the car to see if i could break into the top 3 it was obvious that the grip came up this run so i could push the car a little harder and after a good consistant lapping drive i stuck it in the top 3.

Round 3, With the motor tempreture still not very hot i decided to risk it and go for another too pinions as the faster speed controllers seemed to be giving other drivers that little bit of a edge. I dropped two places after this run to 5th where i qualified in the A final.
Finals,
The start of the first final went really well and my photon was upto 2nd after a couple of cars crashing at the start due to the buzzer unexpectedly setting the race off, i took advantage of this and powered into 2nd this was short lived as i was tapped from behind that caused of my sweep tyre's to come off the rim slighty making the car a handfull. I dropped back to fifth to where i finished.

For the second final i re-glued the tyre back on although unknown to me the insert was damaged and the car was again quite a handfull so i ended up 7th after that run managing 6th overall on the day and the only Top Photon in the top ten.

I had managed 7th overall and was very happy with the result in such a good class of drivers and it being my first winter series with the car, it was clear that the car was comming into its own towards the end of the series. Much-More racing had done a fantastic job with the series and it was a definate race meeting to attend.
